Things to do, Places to see.

If you can rouse yourself from your relaxation by the pool there are many and varied activities from which you can entertain yourselves, ranging from the action packed quad biking through to the more genteel horse riding or catch up on some culture by visiting Granada and the Alhambra.

Alternatively, the coast and it's many beaches are forty minutes away with the various aqua parks or should you wish to venture inland there are donkey sancturies, wolf and flamingo parks.

Of course, there are also many opportunities to indulge your palate at one of the numerous ventas and restaurants that dot the area - some of which are listed below.

Best time to visit is late July and August where thousands of pink Flamingos congregate on the salt flats of Puente de Piedra.

Restaurants

Antigua de Alfarnate - approximately 15km north of Colmenar, this restaurant is situated at a cross roads where the bandit, El Tempranillo (a kind of Spanish Robin Hood) used to waylay passersby. Excellent Spanish cuisine. Reservations are a good idea at weekends. Tel:952759388

Venta Los Moriscos - Colmenar. Specialises in meat and game dishes, situated on the old Malaga road just north of Colmenar. Best to eat late, otherwise the restaurant is deserted before 10.00 when the Spanish sit down for a meal. Tel:952 730 145

The Fountainhead - Rio Gordo. Fantastic food, served in an intimate restaurant which is part of a mountain retreat run by an English couple with their family. Best to make a reservation due to limited covers but well worth it. Tel: 696 18 33 09
